Saturday memorial of the Blessed Virgin Mary Saturday of week 8 in Ordinary Time Gospel: Mark 11:27-33 In today’s Gospel, the religious leaders question Jesus: “By what authority are you doing these things?” Yet behind their question there is not openness to truth, but resistance to conversion and unwillingness to recognize the authority of God present before them. Jesus does not need to justify His authority because His authority comes from the Father Himself. The real problem is not whether God has authority, but whether human beings are humble enough to accept it. Faith begins when we stop trying to place God under our judgment and instead allow ourselves to stand under His truth. Human pride constantly seeks to control, measure, and negotiate with God, while true discipleship requires surrender, trust, and humility. On this memorial of the Blessed Virgin Mary, we see the opposite attitude in her life. Mary does not demand explanations or signs of authority from God; she responds with openness and obedience: “Let it be done to me according to your word.” She teaches us that holiness grows where humility allows God to reign. The Gospel reminds us that God’s authority is not oppressive but life-giving, because His authority is rooted in truth, love, and salvation. The more we humble ourselves before Him, the more we discover the freedom and peace that come from belonging completely to God. Let’s reflect: Am I humbly allowing God’s authority to guide my life, or am I still trying to judge, control, and resist the truth that calls me to surrender and trust?
