Wednesday of week 10 in Ordinary Time
Gospel: Matthew 5:17-19In today’s Gospel, Jesus declares with clarity: “I have come not to abolish the Law or the Prophets but to fulfill them.” Christ does not become a reason for exceptions, compromises, or the weakening of God’s truth. Rather, He reveals the deepest meaning and fullness of the Law by bringing it to completion in love, truth, and communion with the Father. Sometimes people try to use Jesus to justify personal preferences or to escape the demands of conversion, but the Gospel shows the opposite: Christ intensifies the call to holiness by moving the Law from mere external observance into the heart. In Jesus, the commandments are no longer simply rules imposed from outside, but a living path toward authentic freedom and love. The fulfillment of the Law is therefore not legalism, but transformation in Christ. Jesus fulfills the Law because He Himself perfectly lives the will of the Father and reveals what humanity is called to become. True discipleship does not seek loopholes or minimal requirements, but desires to enter fully into the life and truth revealed by Christ. The more we unite ourselves to Him, the more the Law becomes not a burden but the expression of a heart transformed by grace. Let’s reflect: Am I truly allowing Christ to fulfill and transform my life according to the fullness of God’s truth, or am I trying to use Him as a reason to justify compromises and avoid deeper conversion?
