First Friday: Let's entrust ourselves to the Sacred Heart of Jesus

Reading: Matthew 16:24-28On this First Friday, the Gospel invites us to contemplate the mystery of the Sacred Heart of Jesus, whose love is completely self-giving. Jesus declares: “Whoever loses his life for my sake will find it.” These words reveal the paradox at the heart of Christian discipleship: what is surrendered in love is never truly lost. Every sacrifice offered for Christ, every act of forgiveness, every hidden service, every cross embraced with faith becomes the place where God gives us a richer and deeper life. The world tells us to preserve ourselves at all costs; the Heart of Jesus teaches us that true life is found by giving ourselves away. To entrust ourselves to His Sacred Heart is to believe that His love is more secure than anything we try to hold onto. Nothing given to Him is wasted. He transforms every apparent loss into grace, every cross into resurrection, and every act of generous love into eternal fruit. The martyrs, such as Pope Sixtus II and his companions, and saints like Saint Cajetan, discovered this truth in their own lives: by losing everything for Christ, they found everything in Him. Today, let us place our lives with confidence into the Sacred Heart of Jesus, trusting that in His love, every surrender becomes a new beginning and every loss becomes a true finding. Let’s reflect: Do I trust the Sacred Heart of Jesus enough to surrender what I cling to, believing that whatever I lose for His sake will become the very place where I find true life?
