Gratitude that builds the future. An extraordinary gift for the 50th anniversary of the mission in Nanjota.

From the heart of Tanzania, from the mission in Nanjota, I want to share a message that is tangible proof of the incredible fruits that many years of evangelization work bring. The recent 50th-anniversary celebration of the presence and ministry of our missionary sisters and local sisters in this region marked the beginning of a unique endeavor. The celebration of this beautiful jubilee stirred great emotion among the local community. The residents of Nanjota, looking back on half a century of our Congregation’s dedicated service, wished to express their gratitude for everything the sisters do in the areas of evangelization, catechesis, caring for the sick, and running a preschool that has already educated several generations. At a time when the modern world—including here in Africa—is grappling so intensely with the problem of waning faith, the local community recognized an important spiritual foundation in the sisters’ mission and wished to offer tangible support. The impetus for action came from the jubilee itself, as well as the launch of professional catechetical courses that the sisters recently organized, beginning on April 1. Although these courses were initially designed for the formation of our postulants, they were quickly opened to the general public as well—a decision that proved to be a very good idea, drawing a strong response from many people. In response to this initiative, the local community, moved by our new activities, came up with the idea of building a library. As the regional superior, I must admit that when I first heard about these plans during the jubilee, I thought it was merely a beautiful but unrealistic idea—or perhaps a kind of joke. Knowing the local realities, I expected that even with full commitment, carrying out such a large project would take years. However, the residents of Nanjot completely surprised our community. Without waiting, they organized a grassroots fundraiser, purchased the necessary building materials, and found craftsmen. The result of this extraordinary initiative was the construction of the building in just three months. The completed building was officially handed over to the sisters on August 30 as an expression of love and gratitude from the entire parish community (and beyond). Importantly, the project was planned with great wisdom and designed to meet the mission’s real needs. In addition to the library itself, several additional rooms were created in the building. They will serve as guest quarters for lecturers who come to lead the aforementioned catechetical courses. A computer and a piano were also purchased to equip the facility, and they are already being used for educational and formative purposes. This new space is more than just bricks and a roof. It is a living monument to mature faith and incredible trust. It now stands and serves in Nanjota as the heart of our educational activities, where postulants and laypeople will be able to deepen their faith and knowledge. From the bottom of our hearts, we thank God for these 50 years and for the people who, through their determination, have shown us what true, active love for the Church is. We entrust the entire community of Nanjota and our sisters to your constant remembrance in prayer.
