Friday 17 April

Friday of the 2nd week of Eastertide
Gospel: John 6:1-15In today’s Gospel, Jesus takes the little that is offered, five loaves and two fish, gives thanks, and feeds the multitude until all are satisfied, with abundance remaining. This sign is more than an act of compassion; it points beyond itself to the mystery of the Resurrection. In the hands of Jesus, limitation becomes fullness, scarcity becomes abundance, and what seemed insufficient becomes life for many. This is the logic of Easter. The Risen Christ continues to transform what is fragile, broken, and small into a source of new life. The multiplication of the bread foreshadows the victory of life over lack, hope over despair, and divine generosity over human limits. It also directs us toward the Eucharist, where the Risen Lord still feeds His people with Himself. During the Easter season, we are invited to place our own poverty into His hands, trusting that with Christ nothing given in love remains too little, for He is the Lord who multiplies life through the power of His Resurrection. Let’s reflect: Easter is placing our poverty into the hands of the Risen Christ and trusting Him to transform it into abundant life for many.
