Friday of the 3rd week of Eastertide
Saint Fidelis of Sigmaringen, Priest, Martyr
Gospel: John 6:52-59In today’s Gospel, Jesus speaks words that surpass all human expectation: “My Flesh is true food, and my Blood is true drink.” This is one of the deepest effects of the Resurrection. The body once offered on the Cross and raised in glory is now given as nourishment for the life of the world. Because Christ is risen, His self-gift is not confined to the past; it remains living, active, and present. In the Eucharist, we do not receive a memory, but the living Lord Himself, who feeds us with His victorious life. His Flesh strengthens what is weak, His Blood heals what is wounded, and His presence unites us to the communion of divine life. To eat and drink in faith is to abide in Him and allow His risen life to abide in us. On the memorial of Saint Fidelis of Sigmaringen, who remained faithful unto martyrdom, we remember that those nourished by Christ receive courage to persevere and love to the end. During the Easter season, we are invited to approach this mystery with reverence and gratitude, for the Resurrection continues to touch the world through the true food and true drink of Christ. Let’s reflect: Easter is receiving the living Christ as true food and true drink, and allowing His risen life to dwell within us.
