Monday of the 3rd week of Advent
Reading: Numbers 24:2-7, 15-17a
As Advent deepens, the ancient prophecy of Balaam draws our gaze toward the quiet certainty of God’s promise: “A star shall advance from Jacob, and a staff shall rise from Israel.” Even spoken by a foreign seer, this word reveals that God’s plan of salvation shines beyond boundaries and unfolds despite human resistance. The star points to Jesus, the light that does not flicker in darkness, while the staff speaks of guidance and authority rooted not in force but in fidelity. Advent invites us to read the signs with attentive hearts, learning to recognize Christ’s light already rising on the horizon of our lives. In times of confusion or waiting, this promise steadies us: God’s guidance is sure, His light reliable. To await the coming Lord is to let ourselves be led, trusting that the Star who rises will illumine our path and gather us into the peace of His reign. Let’s reflect: Advent is the season of attentive waiting, when we learn to recognize the rising light of Christ, the guiding Star who leads us with sure hope through the darkness toward God’s promised fulfillment.
