Mary, Mother, God has called you to a constant readiness for the inner journey. A shift in perspective, an openness—to a new way of seeing reality, to different ways of thinking, feeling, and acting. When Jesus gave you to us as our Mother, he also wanted you to guide us in an ever more mature following of him, even on the inner paths of the mind and heart. Pope Leo XIV spoke these words to the participants of the International Mariological Congress on September 6, 2025: “The task of Marian theology is to foster in the entire People of God, above all, a readiness to ‘begin anew,’ with humility and courage, grounded in God, His Word, and the needs of our neighbor (cf. Lk 1:38–39); as well as the desire to move toward the unity that flows from the Holy Trinity, in order to bear witness to the world of the beauty of faith, the fruitfulness of love, and the prophecy of hope that never disappoints.” What do I need to truly seek the sources of a change in thinking in the Word of God and in the real needs of people? Do I think about what I need to change in order to perceive reality as God sees it? How can I learn to desire what He desires? The world so desperately needs the witness of people and communities of living faith, but the path toward unity is very demanding. It is by no means obvious whether we want to follow it consistently. Before we take action, an inner journey is necessary—a transformation of the heart. Mary, Mother of the inner journey, intercede for us that we may be ready to “start anew,” with humility and courage, just as God leads us in His Word.
