Saturday of the 2nd week of Eastertide
Gospel: John 6:16-21In today’s Gospel, the disciples are crossing the sea in darkness when strong winds arise and fear takes hold of them. Then Jesus comes toward them, walking on the waters, and says, “It is I. Do not be afraid.” This sign points beyond itself to the mystery of the Resurrection. The waters, often a symbol of chaos, fear, and the powers that threaten life, do not overpower Him. Christ walks above them as Lord of creation and Lord over every force of darkness. What is revealed after Easter is already foreshadowed here: nothing can imprison the Son of God, not the storm, not the deep, not even death. His victory is not only His own; it is the promise of ours. Because He lives, those who belong to Him are called to pass through fear into peace, through darkness into light, through death into life. During the Easter season, we are invited to welcome Him into the boat of our lives and trust that the Risen Lord leads us safely toward the shore of resurrection. Let’s reflect: Easter is welcoming the Risen Christ into the storms of our lives and passing with Him from fear and death into peace and new life.
