Saturday of the 4th week of Lent
Gospel: John 7:40-52
In today’s Gospel, we see how divided opinions about Jesus arise not from lack of evidence, but from the way people listen. Some are open and attentive, sensing the truth in His words, while others cling rigidly to their own interpretations of the law and dismiss Him without truly listening. Nicodemus stands out as one who invites a more honest approach: to listen before judging. This Gospel reveals a subtle but important lesson, when our understanding of the law becomes closed and self-referential, it can prevent us from recognizing God at work. During Lent, we are called to listen not only with the mind that interprets, but with the heart that receives. True discernment is born when the heart remains open, humble, and willing to be led beyond its own certainties. It is in this openness that we begin to recognize the living voice of God. Let’s reflect: Lent is learning to listen with a humble heart that is open to God, beyond our own rigid interpretations and judgments.
