Saturday of the 7th week of Eastertide Gospel: John 21:20-25In this final stage of waiting between Ascension and Pentecost, the Church recognizes that the mystery and action of Jesus Christ can never be exhausted by human understanding alone. In today’s Gospel (John 21:20–25), the evangelist concludes by saying: “There were many other things that Jesus did; if all were written down, the world itself, I suppose, would not hold all the books that would have to be written.” The life, words, miracles, suffering, Resurrection, and glorified presence of Christ surpass every human category and explanation. This is why the Holy Spirit is necessary. The Spirit does not add a new revelation apart from Christ, but opens the hearts of believers to continually enter more deeply into the inexhaustible mystery of Jesus. Without the Holy Spirit, Christ risks becoming only a historical figure or a religious memory; with the Spirit, He becomes living, present, and transformative. During this sacred period before Pentecost, the Church waits in humility, knowing that the mystery of Christ is greater than human language, theology, or books can contain. The Holy Spirit leads believers not merely to information about Jesus, but into communion with Him, so that His infinite life may gradually unfold within the heart of the disciple. Let’s reflect: As I wait for the Holy Spirit, am I humble enough to let Him lead me beyond mere knowledge about Jesus into a living communion with the inexhaustible mystery of Christ?
