Saint Bridget of Sweden, Patroness of Europe
Gospel: John 15:1-8
In today's Gospel, Jesus reveals the secret of a fruitful Christian life: “I am the vine, you are the branches”. A branch does not struggle to produce fruit by its own strength; it simply remains united to the vine from which it receives life. The same is true for us. The closer we remain to Christ through prayer, His Word, the Eucharist, and faithful obedience, the more His life flows within us, quietly transforming our thoughts, words, and actions. Fruitfulness is not the result of restless activity but of deep communion with Him. Every time we distance ourselves from Christ, we weaken spiritually; every time we cling more firmly to Him, we grow in faith, hope, and love. On this feast of Saint Bridget of Sweden, whose life was rooted in prayer and intimate union with Christ, we are reminded that holiness begins not by doing more, but by abiding more. The more closely we remain attached to the true Vine, the more abundantly God can bear fruit through our lives. Let’s reflect: Do I consciously remain united to Christ each day, allowing His life to flow through me and bear lasting fruit?
