Tuesday of the 1st week of Advent
Reading: Isaiah 11:1-10
Isaiah’s vision of the “shoot from the stump of Jesse” captures the very heart of Advent: God brings new life precisely where human eyes see only barrenness. From what appears dead, cut down, or without promise, the Messiah emerges, filled with the Spirit of wisdom, understanding, counsel, and strength. His coming changes everything: justice replaces oppression, harmony overcomes hostility, and peace transforms creation itself. This promised One becomes a signal for the nations, a radiant point toward which every longing heart turns, drawn by the beauty of His truth. Advent invites us to recognize this divine pattern in our own lives: God often works in the stumps, places of disappointment, limitation, or endings, bringing forth a new beginning that is entirely His gift. As we await the Lord, we are called to lift our eyes toward His “glorious dwelling,” where all peoples find unity, healing, and hope. Let’s reflect: Advent is the season when we watch for God’s surprising new life rising from our stumps of discouragement, drawing all hearts toward the peace and unity of Christ’s glorious reign.
