The Immaculate Conception of the Blessed Virgin Mary
Readings: Genesis 3:9-15,20; Ephesians 1:3-6,11-12
On this feast of the Immaculate Conception, Advent invites us to pause before Mary, the one whom God clothed entirely in grace, preserving her from the stain of sin so that salvation could enter the world through her immaculate “yes.” Where Adam and Eve discovered their nakedness through disobedience, Mary stands as the new beginning, fully adorned by God’s favour, revealing what humanity looks like when wrapped in divine love. In her, we see not only privilege but purpose: the Father desired to give us His greatest gift, His Son, through a heart completely open, humble, and undefiled. Mary is the dawn before the rising Sun, the first light of redemption, announcing that God has not abandoned us but comes to restore what was lost. In this Advent season, we look to her as the woman of grace, longing to let God’s life clothe us too, covering our weaknesses with mercy, our fears with trust, our sinfulness with His transforming love. May we welcome Jesus with the same purity of surrender Mary lived, that grace may flourish in us and through us for the glory of God. Advent, in light of this reflection, is the season in which we gaze upon Mary, the dawn of redemption, to rediscover that grace restores what sin has wounded, clothing us anew in God’s love and preparing our hearts to welcome Christ with purity, trust, and surrender.
