3rd Sunday of Advent
Readings: Isaiah 35:1–6a, 10; James 5:7–10; Matthew 11:2–11
The Third Sunday of Advent invites us to rejoice in a hope that is already unfolding before our eyes. Isaiah’s cry, “Be strong, fear not!”, assures us that God does not delay out of indifference—He comes decisively to save, to heal, to restore what is broken. Saint James helps us understand how to wait: with patient hearts, firm in hope, resisting the temptation to complain or grow bitter with one another. Advent patience is not passive resignation but a quiet strength rooted in trust. In the Gospel, John the Baptist’s question echoes our own moments of doubt, and Jesus’ response is strikingly concrete: lives are being changed, suffering is being touched, and the poor are receiving good news. The presence of Jesus transforms reality itself. This Sunday reminds us that Advent joy flows from recognizing that salvation is not only promised—it is already at work. Blessed are those who do not stumble over God’s way of coming, but who learn to see, wait, and rejoice as His saving presence reshapes the world and our hearts. Let’s reflect: Advent is the season of patient and joyful hope, when we learn to recognize God already at work among us, strengthening fearful hearts and transforming lives through the saving presence of Christ.
