Wednesday of week 11 in Ordinary Time
Gospel: Matthew 6:1-6,16-18In today’s Gospel, Jesus invites His disciples to rediscover the true center of spiritual life: the intimate relationship between God the Father and each person. Whether speaking about almsgiving, prayer, or fasting, Jesus repeatedly directs our attention to “your Father who sees in secret.” The value of our spiritual practices does not depend on how visible they are to others, but on the authenticity of our relationship with God. Faith is not a performance for human recognition, nor a means of gaining admiration or approval. Our spiritual reality is an inner encounter with the Father who knows our hearts, sees our struggles, and loves us personally. When prayer becomes conversation with the Father, fasting becomes an expression of love, and charity becomes a response to His generosity, our actions are transformed from external obligations into signs of a living relationship. Jesus reminds us that what happens in the hidden place of the heart is more important than what appears before others. The deepest truths of our spiritual life are often invisible to the world but precious in the eyes of God. The Father who sees in secret is not a distant observer but a loving presence who desires communion with us. The more we cultivate this hidden relationship, the more our lives become sincere, free, and rooted in the joy of belonging to Him. Let’s reflect: Is my prayer, fasting, and service rooted in a sincere and hidden relationship with God the Father, or am I seeking recognition and approval from others more than communion with Him?
