Thursday 13 March

Thursday 13 March

Thursday of the 1st week of Lent
First reading Esther 4:17
Lent is a season of surrender, a time to acknowledge our deep dependence on God, just as Queen Esther did in her moment of distress. In her plea, “Come to my help, for I am alone and have no one but you, Lord” (Esther 4:17), we hear the raw cry of a heart that knows its only refuge is in God. Often, we seek security in our own strength, in others, or in the world’s fleeting assurances, but Lent reminds us that true deliverance comes only from the Lord. It is a call to strip away illusions of self-sufficiency and humbly place our trust in His providence. As we journey through this season, may we, like Esther, bring our fears, struggles, and uncertainties before Him, knowing that He alone is our help, our hope, and our salvation. Let’s reflect: Lent is a time to recognize that the Lord is the only one to whom we can turn in our moments of distress.

Wednesday 12 March

Wednesday 12 March

Wednesday of the 1st week of Lent
First reading Jonah 3:1-10
Lent calls us to a repentance that is not merely words but is expressed through concrete actions, as exemplified in the response of the king of Nineveh in Jonah 3:1-10. Upon hearing the prophet’s call, he does not remain passive or indifferent; instead, he rises from his throne, removes his royal robe, puts on sackcloth, and sits in ashes—visible signs of his humility and contrition before God. His actions demonstrate that true repentance is more than an internal feeling; it requires outward transformation and a sincere effort to change. During this Lenten season, we are invited to follow his example, setting aside our pride, comfort, and self-sufficiency, and embracing gestures of penance, prayer, and charity that reflect a heart genuinely turned toward God. In doing so, we open ourselves to His mercy, allowing His grace to renew us and lead us along the path of conversion. Let’s reflect: Lent is taking concrete actions that demonstrate true repentance.

Tuesday 11 March

Tuesday 11 March

Tuesday of the 1st week of Lent
First reading – Isaiah 55:10-11
Lent is a time of deep trust in the transforming power of God’s Word. In Isaiah 55:10-11, God assures us that His Word is never spoken in vain; it always fulfills its purpose, just as rain and snow nourish the earth and bring forth new life. This promise invites us to open our hearts to the Word of God, believing that it will bring about real change within us. When we listen attentively, reflect prayerfully, and act upon His Word, it works within us—softening what is hardened, strengthening what is weak, and cleansing what is impure. Even when we do not immediately see its effects, we trust that God is at work, shaping us into His image. Lent calls us to deepen this faith, allowing the Word to penetrate our hearts, transform our minds, and guide our steps, so that we may bear the fruits of true conversion. Let’s reflect: Lent is believing in the power of the Word of God which will transform me.

Monday 10 March

Monday 10 March

Monday of the 1st week of Lent
First reading Leviticus 19:1-2,11-18
Lent is a time of purification, and the reading from Leviticus (19:1-2, 11-18) reveals that this purification comes through living in justice and love. God commands His people to be holy as He is holy, and this holiness is expressed in concrete actions: refraining from stealing, lying, and deceiving others; treating workers fairly; showing respect for the vulnerable; and rejecting hatred and vengeance. These are not just moral guidelines but a call to shape our hearts according to God’s justice. Lent invites us to examine our lives in light of these commands, to repent of any injustices we have committed, and to renew our commitment to love our neighbor as ourselves. By obeying these divine precepts, we allow God to purify our hearts, making them more like His—just, merciful, and filled with love. Let’s reflect: Lent is purifying our heart by practicing justice.
