Christ the King – Solemnity
Readings: 2 Samuel 5:1–3; Colossians 1:12–20
The Solemnity of Christ the King reminds us that true kingship is not about domination but shepherding. In the first reading, Israel recognizes David as the one who led and cared for them, a shepherd-king whose authority was rooted in service. This image finds its perfect fulfillment in Jesus Christ, who is not only King of the Universe but also Shepherd of our souls. Saint Paul reveals the profound depth of His kingship: Christ is the head of the Body, the Church; in Him all things hold together; through His blood we have redemption and the forgiveness of sins. His reign is one of mercy, reconciliation, and life. He rules not from a throne of earthly power but from the cross, drawing all things to Himself. To proclaim Christ as King is to acknowledge that our lives, our relationships, and our future belong to Him who shepherds with love and leads with truth. It is to allow His kingship to shape our choices, guide our hearts, and unite us as one body under His gentle, victorious rule. Let’s reflect: Do I allow Christ the Good Shepherd and true King to guide my life, trusting His loving authority, or do I still cling to control in areas He longs to lead?
