Friday of the 7th week of Eastertide
Gospel – John 21:15-19
“Jesus showed himself to his disciples, and after they had eaten he said to Simon Peter, ‘Simon son of John, do you love me more than these others do?” After the resurrection, Jesus appeared to the apostles many times. His presence continued to be there as before the resurrection. But only after the resurrection we see that Jesus and apostles eating together. To be precise, after the Last Supper. That means all the meals after the Last Supper are a continuation of this special meal, the Eucharist. And in this passage after the Eucharistic meal, the question of Jesus reveals His will regarding each one of us who participates in the Eucharist. We are called to love Jesus more than any others after the Eucharist. Each time, after receiving the Holy Communion, we should answer this question, “do you love me more than these others do?” In order to love Jesus Christ more than others, we need the Holy Spirit. Let’s reflect: Let’s pray for the Holy Spirit so that we can love Jesus more than others.
