Tuesday of week 34 in Ordinary Time
Saint Catherine of Alexandria, Virgin, Martyr
Reading: Daniel 2:31-45
The vision in Daniel 2 reminds us that when a heart lives close to God, it becomes capable of seeing what God desires to reveal. Daniel does not rely on his own intelligence to interpret the king’s dream; instead, he turns to prayer, humility, and trust—and God opens before him a clarity no human wisdom could achieve. Those who draw near to the Lord begin to see reality as it truly is: kingdoms rise and fall, human power fades, but the kingdom God establishes endures forever. Saint Catherine of Alexandria lived this same spiritual insight—remaining close to God through purity of heart and love for truth, she perceived realities that even the learned of her time could not grasp. Her wisdom confounded the powerful because it came from closeness to the One who is Wisdom itself. When we remain rooted in God through prayer, fidelity, and openness, our vision becomes purified: we discern what matters, recognize what is passing, and see God’s hand guiding history and our lives. To be close to God is to live with a clarity that transforms fear into trust and uncertainty into purpose. Let’s reflect: Do I stay close enough to God that my heart can perceive what He wants to show me, or do distractions and self-reliance cloud my spiritual vision?
