Thanks for 40 years of service in the pastoral care of the deaf

On March 15, 2024, a celebration was held in the convent in the St. Marien Berlin-Kreuzberg retirement home to thank Sister M. Rosa Pakosch for her more than 40 years of service in the pastoral care of the deaf in the diocese of Berlin.
This celebration, which began with a church service, was attended by the regional superior of the Sisters of Mary, Sister Cordula Klafki and the sisters’ convent in the retirement home, as well as the deputy head of the pastoral department representing the Archdiocese of Berlin, Mr. Sebastian Schwertfeger, and other full-time and voluntary staff of the deaf pastoral care, the home director and the care service manager of the St. Marien facility.
During the coffee break that followed, we talked about how Sister M. Rosa was perceived in her ministry. The statements all came down to the same point: Sister Rosa always took a back seat and did her work quietly and selflessly, preparing the celebrations and church services and when there were problems, the answer was: “You’ll manage”.
She also mentioned organizing vacations together with the deaf, which was not always easy – and she always found help from her fellow sisters. She received a lot of support from Sister M. Manuela and Sister M. Euphemia in preparing and following up the get-together with coffee and cake after the monthly services for the deaf.
In this way, Sister M. Rosa managed to give the deaf a home – a home where they felt understood and accepted. Initially, she did this ministry in collaboration with Sister Christiane Uhl, who was deaf herself, and thus familiarized herself with this work and the deaf. Due to the early death of Sister Christiane, most of the burden then fell on her shoulders.
She was the OHR for the deaf. Many home visits and visits to the authorities took her all over the city. It was important to her to stand by these people in need of help.
Now this service is being continued at another location in the diocese of Berlin.

From the “Guardian Angels” Kindergarten at the Sisters of Mary Immaculate in Poznan

From the “Guardian Angels” Kindergarten at the Sisters of Mary Immaculate in Poznan

For several years now, we have been preparing a small surprise for Easter for our neighbors and people who pass our Kindergarten. In this way we want to share the Gospel, the good Word, the blessing with everyone. We want those who are around us to stop at least for a moment and accept in their hearts the gift that is the Love of Jesus. We hope that the gift we have prepared helps to accept this Gift. This year we made a Cross with a heart. In this way we wanted to show that we don’t want to stop at the Cross, but want to gaze further and deeper, at the Risen Christ. We are also sharing the joy of the Resurrection with the families of our preschoolers by preparing an Easter play and a Christmas meeting full of treats and delicious foods.

Retreat with Sister Dulcissima

Retreat with Sister Dulcissima

This year’s Lent abounds in retreat meetings addressed to children, youth or adults.
Pastors from many parishes in Poland are asking to introduce the servant of God Sister Dulcissima to the faithful as part of school or parish retreats. It’s really a good time, full of challenges, but also lively prayer. I am convinced that the handmaid of God Sr.Dulcissima is present and leads people towards God. She is the one who leads the retreat, I am just telling about the graces that Sister Hoffmann experienced and the graces that people receive when they ask her to intercede. May the Good God bless all who put their hope in Him. May He bless those invoking the help of God’s servant Sister Dulcissima.

Pilgrimage to Manoppello

Pilgrimage to Manoppello

On March 15, 2024, we sisters of the new General Leadership of our Congregation, together with the sisters of the Generalate Convent in Rome, went on pilgrimage to Manoppello in Abruzzo to invoke God’s blessing and the assistance of the Holy Spirit for the next 6 years ahead of us.
Manoppello is home to the shrine of the Holy Face of Jesus, which is run by Capuchin friars. A relic has been kept here for centuries, showing the face of Jesus on a wafer-thin fabric with clear signs of his passion. The image was not painted by human hands and it is not scientifically possible to explain how this image came to be on the cloth.
We were all very touched by this face. The prayer of Pope Benedict XVI, who himself was in Manoppello in 2006 and elevated the pilgrimage church to basilica status, should be a source of strength for us in our service to the Congregation, in the certainty that each of us is infinitely loved and that we can always trust in this love and His mercy:
…Your eyes rest on us with tenderness and mercy.
Let us draw from them the strength of love and peace,
that shows us the way of life, and that courage,
to follow You without fear and without compromise,
to become witnesses of your gospel
with active signs of devotion, love and forgiveness…. Amen.

After praying the Way of the Cross, whose stations are located on the way to the shrine, we returned to Rome in the afternoon full of gratitude and joy.

Workshop at Generalat

Workshop at Generalat

A workshop for the new General Board began at the General House on Sunday, March 10. The intensive meetings and workshops will last until Saturday evening. The meeting began with Mass in the Colosseum. The purpose of the meeting is to prepare for the work of the Generalate and to set the main tasks for the Board and for the congregation for the next six years, as indicated by the General Chapter. The program also includes a day of recollection and a pilgrimage to the Holy Face of Jesus in Manoppello. During this time we also surround all the Sisters with our prayers.
