18 December – II day of the novena of Christmas

Reading: Jeremiah 23:5-8

As Advent draws us ever closer to Christmas, Jeremiah’s promise sharpens our hope and gives it a clear shape: “A king shall reign and govern wisely.” We are not waiting for a ruler who imposes power by force, but for one whose wisdom restores justice, heals memory, and gathers what was scattered. This promised King does not erase the past; He redeems it, leading His people out of fear and exile into security and peace. Advent teaches us to long for this kind of kingship, one that orders life according to truth and mercy, not impulse or domination. As we wait, we are invited to let Christ already begin to reign within us, allowing His wisdom to guide our decisions, calm our anxieties, and shape our relationships. The King who is coming does not overwhelm us; He governs by dwelling among us and leading us gently into freedom. Let’s reflect: Advent is the season of hopeful waiting for the wise and just reign of Christ, allowing His gentle kingship to begin ordering our lives even before He is fully revealed.
