Readings: Isaiah 42:1-9,49:1-9; 1 Corinthians 1:1-17; John 1:29-34
On this Second Sunday in Ordinary Time, the Scriptures converge to reveal the identity and mission of Jesus as the light of the nations. Isaiah speaks of a servant chosen and upheld by God, sent to open eyes, free captives, and bring hope beyond all borders, an image fulfilled in Christ. Saint Paul echoes this gift as grace and peace flowing from God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ, reminding us that faith begins not with division but with communion. In the Gospel, John the Baptist offers decisive testimony: he sees the Spirit descend and remain upon Jesus, confirming Him as the One sent by God. This resting of the Spirit reveals Jesus as Lord, not only anointed for a task, but endowed to bring light that endures. Today’s reflection invites us to recognize that the same light which dawned over the nations seeks to illumine our lives, shaping us into witnesses of grace and peace in a world still longing for both. Let’s reflect: Do I truly recognize Jesus as the light and Lord of my life, allowing His Spirit to rest upon me and transform the way I live, bring peace, and bear witness to Him before others?
