Readings: Zephaniah 2:3,3:12-13; 1 Corinthians 1:26-31; Matthew 5:1-12a
The readings of this Sunday invite us to rediscover humility as the true space where God acts and saves. Zephaniah speaks of a poor and lowly people who trust only in the Lord, while Saint Paul reminds us that God chose what is weak in the eyes of the world so that no one may boast except in Jesus Christ. The Beatitudes then reveal the inner logic of the Kingdom: blessedness does not come from power, success, or self-sufficiency, but from a heart that knows its need for God. To be poor in spirit, gentle, merciful, and pure of heart is to organize one’s entire life around the Lord, allowing Him to be the source of meaning, strength, and hope. True humility is not self-deprecation, but joyful trust, recognizing that everything we are and have is a gift, and that our only true glory is belonging to Christ. Let’s reflect: Where in my life am I still relying on my own strength or achievements, instead of humbly trusting in the Lord and organizing my life entirely around Him?
