Thursday of week 5 in Ordinary Time
Gospel: Mark 7:24-30
In today’s Gospel, the encounter between Jesus and the Syrophoenician woman reveals a faith that refuses to be discouraged. Faced with an apparent refusal, she does not withdraw in resentment or despair but transforms her difficult situation into an act of trust: even the crumbs, she believes, carry saving power. Her words show that faith is not the absence of hardship, but the courage to see hope where everything seems closed. In the darkest and most humiliating moments, she discovers an opening for grace. This Gospel teaches us that, in faith, even the worst situation can become an opportunity to believe in something good, because God’s mercy is never exhausted. When we persevere in trust rather than surrender to discouragement, our faith allows Jesus to act, turning what appears to be rejection into blessing and healing. Let’s reflect: When faced with discouragement or apparent rejection, do I give up, or do I trust that even the smallest “crumb” of God’s grace can transform my situation into hope and healing?
