Monday of week 6 in Ordinary Time
Gospel: Mark 8:11-13
In today’s Gospel, the Pharisees demand a sign from heaven, testing Jesus rather than seeking Him. Their request is not born of openness but of resistance; they want proof without trust. Jesus sighs deeply and refuses, because demanding signs does not create relationship. Love, faith, and communion cannot be built on constant verification or conditions. A relationship grows through trust, listening, and shared presence, not through challenges that seek to control the other. When we insist that God prove Himself according to our expectations, we risk closing the very space where faith could grow. The Gospel invites us to move beyond a mentality of testing God and instead to enter into a humble relationship with Him, recognizing that His greatest “sign” has already been given in His presence among us. Let’s reflect: Do I approach God with trust and openness, or do I condition my faith on signs and proofs that keep me from entering into a true relationship with Him?
