4th Sunday of Lent (Laetare Sunday)
Readings: 1 Samuel 16:1,6-7,10-13; Ephesians 5:8-14; John 9:1,6-38On this Fourth Sunday of Lent, Laetare Sunday, the Word of God invites us to rejoice because God sees and acts beyond what our eyes can perceive. In the first reading, when Samuel is sent to anoint the future king, God reminds him: “Man looks at appearances, but the Lord looks at the heart.” The anointing of David teaches us that God’s choices are guided by the truth of the heart rather than by outward impressions. Saint Paul then reminds us that through Christ we have moved from darkness into light and are called to live as children of that light, allowing our actions to reflect goodness, truth, and justice. In the Gospel, Jesus heals the man born blind, revealing that true sight is not merely physical but spiritual: the ability to recognize God’s work even when it appears in unexpected ways. This Sunday invites us to examine our vision, whether we judge by appearances, whether we allow Christ to guide our choices as children of light, and whether we are attentive enough to recognize God quietly at work in our lives. Let’s reflect: Lent is learning to see with God’s eyes, living as children of light, and recognizing His action in our lives even when it comes in unexpected ways.
