19 December – III day of the novena of Christmas
O radix Iesse!
Reading: Judges 13:2-7, 24-25a
As Advent continues with the ancient cry O Radix Iesse, the story of Samson’s birth reminds us that God’s saving work often begins in hidden, unexpected ways. A barren woman, an unremarkable family, and a promise spoken quietly by God become the setting for a deliverer to be born. This is how God intervenes—not according to human calculations, but through His own mysterious wisdom. The birth of Samson points beyond itself to the greater miracle we await: the coming of Christ, born not through human power but through God’s initiative alone. Advent invites us to trust these miraculous ways of God, especially when situations seem closed, delayed, or impossible. Salvation does not arise from strength already present, but from God’s decision to act. As we wait, we are called to believe that even now God is at work, preparing deliverance in ways we may not yet see, but which will reveal His faithfulness at the right time. Let’s reflect: Advent is the season of trusting in God’s hidden and miraculous ways of acting, believing that He is already at work bringing salvation even when hope seems impossible.
