22 December– VI day of the novena of Christmas
O Rex gentium!
1 Samuel 1:24-28
As Advent reaches its final days and we invoke O Rex gentium, the prayer of Hannah in the first book of Samuel teaches us how to wait with a heart full of gratitude. After years of longing and silent tears, she returns to the Lord not to cling to the gift she received, but to offer it back in thanksgiving. Her gesture reveals a profound Advent truth: everything we receive is grace, and gratitude is the purest form of worship. The King of the nations comes not to take from us, but to receive our trust and our thankful hearts. This is the right moment to look back and recognize how the Lord has acted, often quietly, patiently, faithfully, in our lives. Advent gratitude does not erase struggles; it transfigures them by acknowledging that God has been present within them. As we approach Christmas, giving thanks becomes our final preparation, making room for the King who comes to dwell among those who recognize His gifts and return them with love. Let’s reflect: Advent is the season of grateful waiting, when we recognize God’s gifts in our lives and return them to Him with thanksgiving as we prepare to welcome the King who comes in love.
