Saturday of the 2nd week of Advent
Advent deepens our longing for the most intimate promise of faith: to live and to rest in the friendship of God. The words “Blessed is he who shall have seen you and who falls asleep in your friendship” express not only the hope of eternal life but the quiet desire of the heart to belong completely to the Lord. Saint Lucy embodies this longing with luminous clarity, her life and martyrdom reveal a soul so rooted in friendship with Christ that even suffering could not extinguish her light.
