Saints Cyril, monk, and Methodius, Bishop
Saturday of week 5 in Ordinary Time
Gospel: Mark 8:1-10
In today’s Gospel, faced with a hungry crowd and limited resources, Jesus does not begin with what is lacking but with a simple question: “How many loaves have you?” The disciples see insufficiency; Jesus sees possibility. The miracle begins not with abundance, but with the willingness to offer what is already in hand. On the feast of Saints Cyril and Methodius, missionaries who evangelized with the gifts and language they possessed, we are reminded that God does not ask us for what we do not have. He asks for what we can give. What we can do, however small, however inadequate it may seem, is always important when placed in His hands. The Lord multiplies generosity, not perfection. Today we are invited to shift our focus from our limitations to our availability, trusting that even our modest “loaves” can become nourishment for many when entrusted to Christ. Let’s reflect: Am I focusing on what I lack, or am I willing to place the little I have into the hands of Christ, trusting Him to multiply it for the good of others?
