Saturday of the 2nd week of Lent
Saints Perpetua and Felicity, Martyrs
In today’s Gospel, the parable of the prodigal son reveals the deepest meaning of conversion. The younger son returns home thinking about his failure, his hunger, and his lost dignity; yet the decisive discovery is not his sin, but the heart of the Father who runs to meet him. Conversion begins when we recognize this loving heart, one that waits, forgives, restores, and rejoices. The Father does not demand explanations; he offers embrace. On the memorial of Saints Perpetua and Felicity, whose faith trusted completely in God’s love even unto martyrdom, we are reminded that true conversion is not merely turning away from sin but turning toward the Father’s mercy. Lent leads us to rediscover that God’s love is always greater than our distance, and that returning to Him means allowing ourselves to be welcomed again into His compassionate embrace. Let’s reflect: Lent is returning to the Father by recognizing and trusting the boundless love of His merciful heart.
