Thursday of the 1st week of Lent
Gospel: Matthew 7:7-12
In today’s Gospel, Jesus invites us into a persistent and trusting relationship with the Father: “Ask… seek… knock.” These verbs are not momentary actions but continuous attitudes of the heart. Lent teaches us not to give up too quickly in prayer, not to withdraw when answers seem delayed, but to keep searching and keep knocking until we rediscover who we truly are, sons and daughters of our Father in heaven. The promise is not merely that doors will open, but that the One who opens them is a loving Father who gives good things to His children. Our perseverance in prayer gradually purifies our desires and deepens our trust, until faith becomes not a request for things, but a living awareness of belonging. To seek God sincerely is already to move closer to the certainty of being loved by Him. Let’s reflect: Lent is persevering in prayer and seeking God persistently until we live consciously as beloved sons and daughters of our Father in heaven.
