Tuesday of the 2nd week of Lent
Gospel: Matthew 23:1-12In today’s Gospel, Jesus warns against a religiosity that seeks recognition rather than communion. The scribes and Pharisees perform visible acts, but their intention is to attract attention and secure admiration. When our actions are motivated by the desire to be seen, praised, or elevated, they gradually lose their relationship to God. What appears outwardly religious can become inwardly empty. True discipleship is rooted in humility, the quiet awareness that everything is received from the Father and returned to Him. Only actions done in humility remain connected to God, because they seek His gaze rather than human approval. During Lent, we are invited to purify our intentions, to examine not only what we do but why we do it. When we act simply to serve and to love, without seeking titles or applause, our deeds regain their authenticity and become genuine offerings before God. Let’s reflect: Lent is purifying our intentions so that our actions flow from humility and seek God’s approval rather than human praise.
